Wedding Centrepiece Ideas – A Guide to Table Decoration

Your guests spend a lot of time at these tables and if you love flowers, you’ll love to wow them with your choice of centrepiece. But with so many possibilities it can be really hard to choose and to know the direction you’d like to take.

I’m here to help give the low down on loads of options to think about to help you narrow down your thoughts.

Things to consider

Table layout

There’s plenty of gorgeous table configurations that aren’t your standard choice of all rounds or all long. Don’t be afraid of mixing shapes to create an interesting wedding breakfast layout that’s unique to you. Round, square, oval, rectanglular, mix them up! I’m a big fan of a central banquetting table with round or square tables either side, just gorgeous! Depending on your layout might influence how you wish to layer arrangements throughout the room.

Space and Scale

How big are your tables? What else will be on the tables? How much room do we have to play with? It’s always wise to consider things like candles and other tableware into designs to create a look that feels wholly considered.

Consider the rest of the room and the scale it can take. A marquee or a room with high ceilings needs the drama, so you may want more height in your arrangements. If you’re opting for ceiling installations you may wish to keep things more table level. It’s important to work with the character of the space for a complimentary look.

Colourings and style

What’s going on in the rest of the room? Do you prefer subtle colours or bold brights? A wild look or something more stylised? When you’re looking at inspiration, which style draws you in more? We can consider all of this to put together a style that feels you two!

Guest Eyeline

Arrangements should always sit below head height or be risen above, leaving a perfect window for chatter. Delicate wisps coming up from the table top or trails coming down into their eyeline adds a dramatic touch but we never ever want to block that precious window and inhibit conversation between guests across the table.

Centrepiece styles

The All Flower Moment

Minimal to no foliage, luxe and dramatic, no visible container. These pieces are ALL about the flowers. Stylish yet timeless, perfect surrounded by beautifully detailed tableware and candles. The perfect vehicle for drawing your colour palette to your table top. Pair with coordinating charger plates, linens and crockery. This works beautifully as a large arrangement in the centre of a round table, or also as a slightly smaller pieces scattered down the centre of long banquet tables.

The Floral Runner

These can go totally wild, plush and stylised or somewhere in the middle, perfect for a banquet style wedding breakfast. A gorgeous dining experience for guests, while never interfering with conversation across the table. These also look gorgeous along the front of a long top table, perhaps cascading over the front slightly.

The Tall Number

Whether it’s a plinth, a candelabra, or a tall vase, they really create a statement on entry, they’re ideal for grand rooms with high ceilings. If you’re opting for a tall centrepiece it’s always worth having a touch of something at table level, double up the drama with a burst and the top and bottom of the plinth, or go delicate at table level with little vases with dainty stems.

The Footed Bowl

A versatile design that has added elegance from the container. From metal to gold, ceramics to glass, there’s a style to suit every wedding. Blooms spill out over the table from within these pretty vessels. They work beautifully on round tables as a central piece or scattered down long banquet tables, we recommend one between every 4 guests on long tables for a luxe look.

The Bud Vases

A beautiful way to create a delicate and elegant table scape, mixed glassware with single stems and clusters of blooms reaching from within. They work beautifully scattered down the table, all different shapes and sizes, also equally beautiful in clusters amidst larger arrangements. They’re just perfect layered up with an abundance of candles, elegant simplicity.

The Sweetheart Table

A sweetheart table is such a romantic alternative to a traditional top table. A really nice way to spend your meal with your attention purely on each other. They’re also a super gorgeous way to make a statement! Add abundant meadows to the front, a decadent runner or frame with an arch or dramatic installation.

The Luxe Mix and Matched Tablescape

My personal favourite route, mixed and matched with style!! Mixing high and low arrangements throughout the room for a layered look, or mixing small and large along a tablescape, it elevates the styling of your day from pretty to exceptional, lovely to luxurious. Decor that will have your guests talking about your day for years to come!

It gives a wholly considered look and an unforgettable finish. For example, tall centrepieces have a huge wow factor the minute your guests walk into the reception but on every table they’re lost behind each other, mixing low pieces with them allows for your guests eyes to travel through the room with the wow factor the whole way through.

This is just scratching the surface at the possibilities for your tablescape but hopefully helps get those thoughts going for the possible direction you may like to take. Your florist will love to chat through ideas for your own unique styling.
